About the National Capital Bird Club (NCBC)
| What is the National Capital Bird Club? |
We are a group
that loves pet birds and gathers together on a monthly basis for FRIENDSHIP,
FELLOWSHIP, and FUN! |
| What is the
purpose of the NCBC? |
To stimulate and
encourage interest in exotic birds, and to promote education in the proper care,
feeding, and housing of our fascinating feathered friends. Whether they be pets
or breeders, in cages or in aviaries, we enjoy the camaraderie of like-minded
bird enthusiasts. We also promote and support avian research and education about
the conservation of exotic birds in their native habitats. |
|
What are some
of NCBC's activities?
|
NCBC conducts
monthly meetings, informs you about bird marts & conventions, holds picnics,
auctions and holiday parties, raises funds for conservation, and publishes a
monthly newsletter for members. The newsletter keeps members in touch with the
club and current issues surrounding aviculture in our nation and around the
globe. This means that club members receive avicultural information from experts
at the local, state, and national levels. The National Capital Bird Club is a
member of the American Federation of Aviculture (AFA), the Bird Clubs of
Virginia (BCV), the Bird Clubs of America (BCA), and the World Parrot Trust.. |
| What happens at
meetings? |
We feature
speakers, refreshments and plenty of conversation. Featured speakers lecture on
relevant topics such as care & nutrition, behavior, toy-making workshops,
species information, veterinary care, and breeding. Some of our speakers are
nationally known and recognized experts in their fields. Some members bring
their birds to meetings, enabling others to learn more about that particular
kind of bird. |
| When and where
are our meetings? |
Our club normally
meets at 3:30pm on the first Sunday of every month at the McLean Government
Center, 14537 Balls Hill Rd., McLean, VA. Note actual dates on
2006 Schedule
and in newsletter. Directions to meeting location.
